Safety guidelines
Simple steps that keep you and your family safe in the Kumbh crowds.
- Follow police and volunteers
Walk on the routes and in the directions shown by the police, home guards and volunteers. One-way routes are set up on snan days.
- Put a contact card in every pocket
Give children and elders a card with their name, your phone number and where you are staying. Take a photo of them each morning.
- Fix a meeting point
Agree on a landmark where your group meets if anyone gets separated, and go to the nearest Lost & Found centre if they do not come.
- Bathe only inside the marked area
Take the dip only at marked ghats, inside the ropes and barricades. Do not go into deep water, and keep children holding your hand.
- Move with the crowd, never push
Do not stop, sit or run on busy routes. If the crowd gets too tight, move sideways out of it. Avoid the busiest hours of the main snan days.
- Keep your phone charged
Carry a power bank and save the helpline numbers. Networks get busy on snan days, so also write key numbers on paper.
- Beware of pickpockets and touts
Keep wallets in front pockets. Do not trust people offering special darshan or bookings for money; use only official counters.
- Use registered taxis and parking
Park only in the marked parking areas and use registered taxis or the Mela buses. Roads near the ghats close on snan days.
